Grande Prairie Transit and the Eastlink Centre are operating as normal today. The basement at the aquatics facility was flooded and some roadways had to be closed due to the high volume of water gathering in some areas.
“We are assessing areas this morning,” says Transportation Services Manager Robert Carroll. “There were a lot of flooded areas but we don’t have a lot of reports yet of permanent damage. The underground system can only handle so much water at a time.”
Crews set up barricades Tuesday night at several areas, including 102 St. and the Bypass, 100 St. and 97 Ave. and on Wapiti Road near Canfor.
The significant rainfall resulted in flooding at City Hall, City on 99th, the Coca-Cola Centre, the Community Social Development Building, and the Montrose Cultural Centre.
All buildings are operating normally with cleanup occurring as necessary.
