The City of Grande Prairie hosts a variety of entertainment, exercise and history this Heritage Day Monday, August 1.
Heritage Day events are being held in Muskoseepi Park, the Grande Prairie Museum and the Eastlink Centre.
Muskoseepi Park

Entertainment Line-UpHD Musko

Muskoseepi Park invites residents to enjoy cultural performances and culinary delights from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year’s talent includes:

  • Booming Tree Taiko Drumming
  • Garth Prince and Okapi Jambo
  • Moon Dance Shimmy
  • Bhangra Dancers
  • Cam White as ‘Arnie’ the Viking
  • Halo Tribal Fusion Belly Dance
  • Blue Bird Native Dancers

All entertainment is free and is located on the amphitheater stage.

Food and Treats for All

Various food trucks are serving up a world of flavors in the Muskoseepi Park parking lot.

Vendors include:

  • Sun Kissed Frosty Treats
  • Eat your Heart Out
  • The Bugle Wagon
  • El Norteno Taco Stand
  • Egan’s Restaurant & Citrus Catering

Heritage and History at the GP Museum

The Grande Prairie Museum celebrates its 55th Anniversary on Heritage Day. Just across the red bridge from Muskoseepi Park you’ll find free family friendly events celebrating our region’s diverse culture and history.

Visitors can enjoy a look into the past with old-fashioned activities such as carnival games, miniature horses, henna body art, Aboriginal beading and storytelling. The museum will feature heritage demos including tub n’ scrub laundry, rope making and live blacksmithing along with a Cultural Kermesse – a cultural trade show featuring 11 different countries, with food, traditional outfits and activities.

Admission is free and kettle corn is available for purchase.

There are no ATMs on site at the Museum or Muskoseepi Park.

Museum hours of operation on Monday, August 1 are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Forbes Homestead and Pioneer Hospital is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission. They are located behind the QEII Hospital at 10424 96 St.

Eastlink Centre Activities

The Eastlink Centre hosts an afternoon pool party with inflatables, obstacles and giant board games. The pool party is included in memberships or the daily drop-in rate and is open to visitors of all ages with ability to complete obstacles independently.  HD Eastlink

Additional land activities for Heritage Day include:

  • Yoga with the Family:
    Time: 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    Location: EE room
    Ages: 6 and up
    Cost: Included in memberships or drop-in rate
    No need to register. Participants are asked to arrive early to guarantee a spot and bring their own mat or towel.
  • Three Point Long Range Shooting Contest:
    Times: 1:30 p.m. – 2:10 p.m., 18+ cash tournament & 2:20 p.m. – 3 p.m., 17 and under
    Cost: $10 for 18+ tournament & Free for 17 and under
    Location: Basketball court.
    Register online or at the South Entrance.
  • Drip Cake Decorating Workshop:
    Time: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
    Location: Second floor kitchen
    Cost: $10, Pre-registration required

Eastlink Centre hours of operation on Monday, August 1 are noon to 5 p.m.
